FIND - School for Spiritual Direction & Formation

What programs are offered and what is the course of study?

The school offers two tracks of study for its students: spiritual formation and spiritual direction.

What's the difference between the two tracks?

A spiritual director tends to work one-on-one or with a specific group of people toward their individual relationship with God. It is a ministry of listening with a holy ear. A director may companion another individual for a short time or for years along their spiritual walk. A director also may serve congregations with programming, retreats, workshops, etc., on issues of faith and spirituality.

A spiritual formation leader tends to work in ministries that help people experience new ways of relating to God through workshops, quiet days, and other educational events but not as a guide for individuals.

Do I have to attend in person?

FIND has been an in-person school since its beginning in 1997. During the Covid pandemic, we are grateful to be able to continue offering classes via Zoom.

This experience has proven that our faculty and students are able to learn and experience spiritual direction and formation from a distance. However, we know that some prefer to learn in person and others, while that may be a preference, are not able to make a monthly trip to classes in Bryan, Texas.

Thus, beginning with the Fall 2021 semester, FIND will offer two parallel schools.

  • The in-person school will continue on the third Saturdays September-May.

  • A virtual school will begin via Zoom on the first Saturdays September-May.

(Some Saturdays will vary due to Christmas and Easter. A list of dates is provided to applicants). The curriculum, requirements and policies will be identical for both schools.
